THE FONIX CEREMONY
MORE THAN 100 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE AWARDS CEREMONY HOSTED FOR THE TOURNAMENT PARTICIPANTS, SPONSORS AND FRIENDS.
Our school was formally invited to the awards ceremony of the VIII final stage of The Fonix 2016 where the diplomas and prizes will be given to the winners. This ninth edition was held in the University facilities of INEFC in Barcelona. The ceremony was presided by the Minister of Education, Meritxell Ruíz, who congratulated all the winners and the schools who are making the great effort of improving languages and also transmitted the relevance of children learning English language as a necessity to be opened to the world. The other personalities who attended the event were the Pedagogical Director of the contest, Sam Whiteley, the president of the Fundació Catalana de l’Esplai, the Director of the Cambridge University Press and other personalities from the Educational world of languages.
We have to remember that the competition is designed to promote the use of English among school students through a fun and educational competition. The competition is organized by: International House, the Fundació Catalana de l’Esplai and the Department of Education of the Government of Catalonia. The competition is part of its plan of excellence for the promotion of the use of English in schools.
The objective of the competition is to select a finalist from each of the first two stages: local, territorial and the winners at the final stage. The Fonix has the aim of stimulating and motivating the learning capacity in all the educational stages. In this ninth edition 56,000 students from 470 different centres from all Catalonia participated in the regional phase. It should be pointed out that this is a unique action of features with categories from Primary, Secondary and Batxillerat.
Foix Bargalló Calderon from 5th Primary has been our finalist and took part in the ceremony with her parents and a member of the school. It was a very interesting celebration in which Foix could share with the other participants any feelings about all the time they had been in the different stages. After the ceremony all the participants and their relatives were offered a snack in the gardens of the University and they could be taken photographs with the TV presenter of Info 3, Jordi Gil and also with Mrs Gemma Ruiz (Minister of Education). We want to congratulate Foix for her personal success and all our students who have participated in this edition and encourage all them for the next year.
Tal com vàrem iniciar el curs passat el Col·legi Sant Josep participarà al certamen literari en anglès anomenat THE FONIX.
THE FONIX edició 2016 és el 9è concurs d’Anglès Interescolar de Catalunya. Els alumnes que hi participaran seran els dels cursos de 5è i 6è de Primària , tots els cursos de l’ESO i el Batxillerat. El concurs està organitzat per International House, per l’Educació Catalana de l’Esplai i per la Secretaria General de Polítiques Educatives del Departament d’Ensenyament de la Generalitat de Catalunya com a activitat organitzada en el marc d’iniciatives vers l’excel·lència i en el Pla d´impuls de la llengua anglesa als centres educatius catalans.
El “9è concurs d’Anglès Interescolar de Catalunya” constarà de 3 fases eliminatòries. La fase local es realitzarà a l’escola. De tots els participants es triarà un alumne de cada grup que passarà a la fase territorial i si algun d’aquests alumnes aconsegueix superar aquesta fase, passarà a la final.
All our students in the 5th and 6th of Primary, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th of Secondary, and the whole Batxillerat in our school have participated in the “9th English Competition for Catalan Schools”, the local stage competition of THE FONIX 2016. We have to remember that the objective of the competition is to select a finalist from each of the first two stages, local and territorial, as well as the winners for the final round. At the local stage our students have demonstrated their knowledge and skills of writing tasks containing a variety of activities on vocabulary, reading and writing.
We would like to congratulate all the participants for their great attitude and motivation to do the tasks and also for the very good results obtained. The finalist students chosen from each grade of the local stage will represent their school in the regional in the different capital cities (Barcelona, Tarragona, Lleida and Girona). Our candidates will be assigned to Barcelona according to the location of our school.
The tests during the regional stage will be held on Saturday 27th February. We want to make you know that at this stage six winners for each level from the region of Barcelona and three winners for each level from the regions of Tarragona, Lleida and Girona (120 candidates in total) will be chosen to pass to the next level.
The names of the winners from the regional stage of the competition will be published on 9th April. The winners at the local stage and the ones who will participate in the regional one will be:
FOIX BARGALLÓ (5th Primary), CHANTAL SORO (6th Primary), EUGENI PUIGIBERT (1st ESO), JÚLIA GIRÓ (2nd ESO), CARLA MIRALLES (3rd ESO), SÍLVIA VALS (4th ESO), ALBA GARCÍA (1st BATX) and PAU LÓPEZ (2nd BATX).
Finally, it only remains to wish all the participants to the regional stage much success and that they enjoy the experience.
THE FONIX 2016: WE ARE IN THE FINAL!!!!
Foix Bargalló Calderon from 5th Primary won the regional stage of the Fonix 2016 and last Saturday 17th of April participated in the Final Stage. Now it is time to wait for the results and we want to wish her a good luck!
RUTH PINO, THE WINNER OF THE FINAL STAGE THE FONIX 2015
Ruth Pino Higueras from 4th ESO has won the final stage of “Fonix 2015” and participated in the award ceremony which took place on Saturday 22nd where the diploma and the prizes were presented. We want to congratulate Ruth Pino and all the students who have joined in. We want to remember that “THE FONIX“is the English Competition for Catalan Schools, designed to promote the use of English among school students. It has been our first time to participate in it and it’s been a very successful experience for all our students. We wish to repeat the experience next year.
