Our 3rd graders were involved in an experiment about plants nutrition. With this experiment, students could discover for themselves how essential the functions of stems are to plant growth. As the coloured water was absorbed, they were able to see how it moved into the flower and were amazed when the petals of a white carnation changed colour. Although, their flowers didn’t have roots anymore they were still able to observe how plants absorbed water up from the plastic glass into the stem and up through the flower to the petals.
