fearless-john-front pageLast Thursday, on the 20th, our Pre-primary and Primary students attended a Theatre Play completely in English, in our school: P3-P4-P5 and 1st saw “Pinocchio”, whereas 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th saw “Fearless John”. The play was performed by the company Theatre4schools that thinks that theatre inspires creativity and offers life lessons for our students while they learn a foreign language.

A NEW YEAR FOR THE FONIX COMPETITION 2017!

Fonix2017Once again, a new opportunity to participate in the Tenth English Competition of the THE FONIX 2017, designed to promote the use of English among school students, has started. We want to inform all of you that all the students in the 5th and 6th of Primary, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th of Secondary, and the whole Batxillerat of Sant Josep School participated in the local stage which took place in the school between the 12th and 15th of January. All the students tried to do their best in the reading, writing and vocabulary activities. We want to remark that both teachers and students felt very satisfied for their participation and the good results achieved.

LANGUAGE ASSISTANTS IN OUR SCHOOL (2016-17)!

wAuxiliars de conversa 2016-17Our school believes that hosting a language assistant in our families is an ideal way to improve language learning for our students. One of the challenges in our project of being a trilingual school is to improve the learning process of English language by providing the students the possibility of holding real conversations and encouraging them to speak and interact with native speakers. This year our language assistants are Carolyn and Annie from Massachusetts and Adele from Ireland. They arrived in Sant Sadurní on the 30th September and they will be living in different students’ homes during all the school year. Their presence in our school will be relevant not only for our students but also for the teachers and school staff who will have the opportunity to learn about a new culture with people from other parts of the world and to improve their language skills and live a real experience of life.

Mètode PHONICS!

Mètode PhonicsEl mètode Phonics va néixer al Regne Unit per donar resposta a nens i nenes amb dificultats d’aprenentatge. Aquest mètode ajudava els alumnes que no aconseguien aprendre a llegir i a escriure al mateix ritme que la resta del grup a través de gestos units a sons. L’objectiu del nostre projecte Phonics és millorar la iniciació a la lectoescriptura en llengua anglesa basant-nos en la correcta pronunciació dels fonemes. Hem implementat aquest mètode en L’etapa infantil ja que està demostrat que l’adquisició d´una llengua estrangera és molt més eficaç a aquestes edats. La morfologia física dels infants presenta, d’una banda, una major plasticitat a les cordes vocals que permet produir sons no habituals en la llengua materna i, de l’altra, una major plasticitat neuronal que facilita l’adquisició de nous coneixements.

The FONIX 2016!

wFonix 2016Tal com vàrem iniciar el curs passat el Col·legi Sant Josep participarà al certamen literari en anglès anomenat THE FONIX. THE FONIX edició 2016 és el 9è concurs d’Anglès Interescolar de Catalunya. Els alumnes que hi participaran seran els dels cursos de 5è i 6è de Primària , tots els cursos de l’ESO i el Batxillerat. El concurs està organitzat per International House, per l’Educació Catalana de l’Esplai i per la Secretaria General de Polítiques Educatives del Departament d’Ensenyament de la Generalitat de Catalunya com a activitat organitzada en el marc d’iniciatives vers l’excel·lència i en el Pla d´impuls de la llengua anglesa als centres educatius catalans.

The Fonix!

All our students in the 5th and 6th level of primary school; students in all four years of secondary school; and 1st and 2nd Batxillerat have already taken part in the local stage competition of THE FONIX 2015. Students who are in the same year had to do the exercises on the same day and at the same time to demonstrate their skills in vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing expression. All the teachers want to congratulate all the participants for their great attitude and motivation to do the tasks and also for their very good results obtained. The student finalist chosen from each grade will represent our school in the territorial stage on Friday the 28th of February in Barcelona.

My name is Karista…

IMG_7204My name is Karista and I joined Sant Joseps as a conversation assistant at the end of October. I have come all the way from the Northwest coast of British Columbia, Canada, to be here and I have loved every minute of the experience so far. I have worked with children off and on for the past 8 years and was thrilled to have the opportunity to join such an amazing staff and to get to know so many bright, young students.

A training course in Phonics

Celebrating Saint George’s day

On the 23rd of April the students in our school celebrated Saint George´s day with different activities. Literary contest, poetry readings, musical performances, and one was the performance of Pol Rifé, guitarist and vocals from 1st ESO B. He delighted us with the song  ”Let her go” from The Passenger.

Conversation Assistants 2014 (January-June)

img_0827It is the first year that Collegi Sant Josep in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia takes part in FCC´s Conversation Assistants program.  Sant Josep school is hosting Nicholas and Richard, from  the UK. They both help students from 4th of Primary to 4th of ESO. Our students have the opportunity to improve their English language by doing dynamic classes and  a wide range of activities to get fluency in their spoken English.

Both Nicholas and Richard have written to make us know what their experience with the program is like so far. Thank you Nicholas and Richard!
